Our story begins on Reddit when Al Ferguson posted a photo of himself with a very important message written on his T-shirt. This young dad wanted the whole world to know that when it comes to taking care of his kids he`s not just “helping out”, he is taking care of them! There is a big difference.
His shirt promotes #DadsDontBabysit a campaign launched by the National At-Home Dad Network. Ferguson also founded the Dad Network which is an online community that supports fathers in exploring healthy fatherhood.
There was a massive response to his post with lots of dads sharing the same experiences. Dads don`t have to feel like they are the secondary parent with lack of confidence or ability to take care of their children. Dads need space where they can share their emotions and thoughts about being a parent. After all, both parents experience the same emotions of parenthood. Why not express it openly without being judged.
According to Ferguson there are many dads out there that fell alone going through this process. After all when it comes to parenting men should be equal because promoting fathers and encouraging them to realize their full capacity for nursing is a step to closing the gap in gender equality.
