The topic of having (or not having) kids is a really private matter and it shouldn’t be people’s business. Unfortunately, it has become a subject of small talk where people think they have the right to share their advice or opinions without knowing any details. Not wanting kids is just as normal wanting them. In reality, there are many reasons why someone may not have children and people don’t seem to realize how sensitive and invasive of a topic this really is. Most of the people see women who don’t want kids as ‘selfish’ which is pretty judgmental on its own.
Kate McDonough is one more woman that doesn’t want to raise kids and many people don’t seem to understand it. She enjoys working with kids and may one day become an art therapist but that doesn’t mean she wants to have her own. People don’t seem to understand that, making statements like “You will change your mind, you’ll see” or suggesting that she would make a great mother.
“It’s just not in me. I think it would be much worse to become a mother to a child that I do not want than to disappoint people who expect motherhood of me.” – she shares on her blog.
In the spirit of that, Kate decided to share her frustrations on this topic in her perfect comics illustration called “Pretty, Pretty Ugly”. Check it out below.
